The Eti-Osa Federal constituency boasts of diversity: from urban professionals to industrious entrepreneurs; accomplished celebrities and entertainers; a teeming base of creative youth at the forefront of innovation in Nigeria; hard-working petty traders; to an ever-growing international community.
I believe a constituency with this wealth of human capital should provide an essential backdrop for strategic policy formulation that cuts across business, labor laws, creative and cultural industries, technology-driven education, environmental and preventive healthcare interventions and a host of other issues.
The House of Representatives is an essential plank in our socio-political and economic life, as the centre for policy design. It has been designated with the power to change our social realities by shaping policies that inspire positive metrics in our economy and engender life transformation for Nigerians.
To get this country to work, we need strong and credible people in every position, at every level of our political strata. We need representatives who will think more holistically about their role in the economy, society and the broader environment, and propose policies that can produce verifiable impact on the economy, environment and the society at large.
As our youth roam the streets in search of non-existent jobs, as women and children lose their lives to avoidable deaths at travesties called ‘health centers’, as our children grapple to make sense of the failed public school systems, and businesses burn their capital to power operations; amidst this collapse, we cannot proceed to this election as we have to previous ones.
The young, educated professionals; the hardworking youths, are the ideal candidates for the House. With this election, we know the future has arrived, and we are equipped to lead the way. Indeed, we have the power to make greater impact than we have ever imagined. Nigerians, we have nothing to lose in 2019 but our chains.
Come 2019, we must come together, regardless of party alliances, ethnicity and religious diversity, and elect representatives who have practical solutions and ideas to the long-standing issues that confront us.
I believe 2019 offers us a golden opportunity to significantly impact our country, to do more than criticize - to contest! To do more than complain, to get a PVC and vote.
As a forefront African economy, we must stop being the sleeping giant and wake up to our great potential. Our best years lie ahead of us, not behind us. We must challenge the status quo and change the game. Now is the time to realize it.
We begin a journey of positive impact and lasting change.
Let’s make impact!
