GALAXY4PEACE:- LAUNCH OF LAGOS PEACE TALK – IN OBSERVANCE OF 2019 UNITED NATION’S INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY

Every year on 21st September, the United Nations calls on all nations and people to put down their weapons and reaffirm
their commitment to living in harmony with one another...

The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed around the world each year on 21st September. Established in 1981
by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace
above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

Also, Peace Day provides the platform to recognize the
efforts of those who have worked hard to end the conflict and promote peace. With the powerful and inspiring opportunity
such day provides to engage children and youth in diverse activities related to peace, unity and making a positive difference in
their world, such a global day remains significant.

This year is particularly significant as it is the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations Resolution on the Programme of Action
on a Culture of Peace. The 2019 Peace Day theme, “Climate Action for Peace” brings a clear message: the global climate
emergency is a threat to security and stability. As coastal areas and degraded inland areas are becoming uninhabitable, millions
of people are being forced to seek safety and better lives elsewhere. With extreme weather events and disasters becoming more
frequent and severe, disputes over dwindling resources risk fueling climate-related conflict.

What Are We Doing?
In the capacity of a peacebuilding focused organization, we have over the years with the collective efforts of young people been
at the forefront of observing International Peace Day in Nigeria. As the first indigenous organization in Nigeria who are
members of Peace One Day Partnership for Peace Coalition, we are excited to be collaborating with Yali Network Lagos
chapter in commemoration of 2019 Peace Day, with the launch of Lagos Peace Talk conversation and a peacebuilding training
for youths and by the youths with the theme: “Strengthening Young People’s Efforts in Calling for Sustainable Peace”.

Lagos Peace Talk is aimed at bringing young peacebuilding practitioners and upcoming together, the private sector, civil
society, academic institutions and individuals to advocate for peace through a community binding experience of training &
interaction.

The Peace Day event will feature keynote addresses, plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and poetry presentations
on carefully selected subthemes all related and contributory to our goal of strengthening youth's efforts in calling and working
towards sustainable peace in Nigeria.
