Adonijah Owiriwa "76" Producer honoured by the Africa Child Foundation.

Adonijah Owiriwa, Founder of ‘Adonis Productions’, was honoured with an Africa Child Prize Award 2017 on Friday (16th June) by the African Child Foundation, who presented him with their annual “Award for Literature, Art & Cultural Promotion”...

The award recognised Mr Owiriwa’s role as Executive Producer of the critically acclaimed Nollywood film, ’76, which has earned 4 AFRIFF (African International Film Festival) Awards, 5 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (including ‘Best Overall Movie’) and was an official selection of the London BFI International Film Festival. It debuted at the Toronto Film Festival and was later screened at the Dubai International Film Festival.

As our readers will be aware, the period film was a love story based around the failed military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed, in 1976. It was produced by Adonis Productions, which Mr Owiriwa co-owns with his partner Prince Tonye Princewill.

The African Child Foundation is a growing community of young African leaders, entrepreneurs, civil servants, public servants, clergies and farmers, who are passionate about humanitarian services, and who wish to recognise their fellow countrymen and women who add value to our society by affecting African Children positively. As well as honouring the success of ‘76, the award they gave Mr Owiriwa was also in recognition of the charity work he has carried out in orphanages across Nigeria, alongside Prince Tonye (The two men were the brains behind the nationwide ‘Melody Shelters’ singing contest for orphanages, which took place in 2012, across every registered Nigerian orphanage, with a grand prize of N10 million awarded to the winner.)

Mr Owiriwa’s son, Mario, is currently following in his father’s footsteps and achieving great success in his own right. He is the current ‘Mr Ideal Nigeria Universal’ and will be representing his country at ‘Mr Universal Ambassador’ in Indonesia later this year.

When asked by SwaGG News (who were in attendance with him at the awards) if he had any advice for his fellow fathers this Fathers Day, Mr Owiriwa told us that, “In as much as a push is needed from a father for his children, a child must be deserving of what he or she wants. They must put in work". We certainly agree with these sentiments.

Adonis Productions now works exclusively in movies and currently has several exciting projects in development. We hope to bring you more details in the near future.
